The objective of a porous coating is to provide a three-dimensional porous matrix for bone in-growth to stabilize the implant after surgery. Small spherical particles are applied to the surface of the implants and sintered (heated to a very high temperature) in a vacuum furnace to achieve bonding. In addition to spherical bead coating Bio-Vac also offers a coating with irregular shaped particles. This coating offers a rougher, more porous structure for bone in-growth.
