Orchid Design Opens a Facility in Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN January, 2009 – Orchid Design, a division of Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, launched a second facility in Memphis in January, 2009. Orchid Design’s Shelton, CT location was launched in 2004 with the purpose of providing new and existing Orchid Unique customers with full orthopedic product development services. According to Mike Cordonnier, Orchid Design Engineering Manager, “The vision very early on was to grow the product development group to a point that we could provide outstanding, personalized service and speed to market for our customers.”

Memphis, the number two orthopedic center of excellence in the US, is expected to provide relevant orthopedic engineering talent, close proximity to some of Orchid’s top customers, and easy access to other orthopedic centers of excellence. In addition to these factors, Orchid has an existing facility, Orchid Stealth Coating, located in Memphis.

According to Cordonnier, “One of the goals in launching the Memphis facility has been to look for projects and new employees that help supplement the experience of the current Orchid Design team.” Teams in Memphis and Shelton will collaborate on client projects together, providing customers with a variety of innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems. “Having these capabilities within Orchid Design allows relationships to develop with customers that may not traditionally interact with contract manufacturers. This gives Orchid Orthopedic Solutions an opportunity to develop and design products for our customers with good manufacturing practices before they are released for production, and to make for a more seamless transition of a product design into manufacturing.”
