Orchid Unique Gains 20,000 Square Feet of Manufacturing Capacity
November, 2008
BRIDGEPORT, MI November, 2008 – Orchid Unique, a division of Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, completed the construction of a 140’ x 295’ (43m x 90m) addition to the Bridgeport facility in the fall of 2008. The nearly seamless addition contains approximately 41,000 square feet (3810 square meters) of additional manufacturing capacity. With the new addition, Orchid Unique closed the leased Saginaw facility and still has 20,000 square feet (1860 square meters) available for future growth.
According to Mark Burba, Orchid Unique Vice President, “One of the reasons for investing in the expansion was to support our customers and be ready to grow with them in the future. We now have the ability to tie in closer with our customers through dedicated capacity. The expansion was also driven by the desire to have everyone under one roof and improve our manufacturing cycle times. It has proven to be a better use of our people and ultimately we get faster throughput.”
The funds for this new structure were granted by the equity team and the Board Members of Orchid Orthopedic Solutions who are committed to opening up future opportunities for Orchid Unique. The project was overseen by Ken Altman, Engineering and Process Development Manager, and Leon Spencer, Maintenance Supervisor.
